Additional Resources

Continue the dialogue from the conference on The Federal Stimulus Package – What Does It Mean For Texas and How Can Foundations Be Involved? We have set up a Yahoo Group to continue the dialogue, share information and help us collaborate on ARRA and advocacy opportunities. Basic information is currently loaded from both the May 18th and February 9th conferences and we hope you will help us fill it with more information and use it as a resource and working site. To join "Philanthropy and Policy Collaborative" send an email to Philanthropyandpolicycollaborative-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

The Foundation Center has collected an extensive array of resources on how nonprofits may be able to access stimulus package funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The Center's new MapShot: Best ARRA Funding Resources by State provides a state-by-state display of funding opportunities and other pertinent information. Click here to access.

In March 2009, NTEN, Common Knowledge, and ThePort conducted a survey of nonprofits on their usage of social networking. The survey's findings, Nonprofit Social Network Survey Report, is available free for download after a quick registration process at http://www.nonprofitsocialnetworksurvey.com/download.php The report answers questions like:

• Besides Facebook, which commercial social network sites are nonprofits using most?
• How many members do nonprofits have on their social network communities?
• How are nonprofits marketing their social network sites?
• Are nonprofits successfully getting revenue from social networks?
• How are nonprofit peers resourcing social networks efforts?

Project Streamline, an initiative of the Grants Managers Network and eight other organizations, including CSF. The project seeks to improve grant application and reporting. We recommend its new online newsletter, with a story about how two foundations eliminated the IRS Tax Letter requirement from their application process, an insightful critique from a nonprofit executive of the project's report, Drowning in Paperwork, Distracted from Purpose, and a provocative opinion from a foundation staffer about streamlining for effectiveness, not just efficiency. You can also learn more about the next phase of the project and how you can participate

Foundation Center Maps Philanthropy's Response to the Economic Crisis: The Foundation Center is collecting the most recent data available on U.S. foundation support in response to the economic crisis, offering the first look at how foundations are aiding nonprofits as they struggle with the fallout from the downturn. The Center is making this information publicly available in an interactive map, launched today on its web site. Click here to visit the Foundation Center's Focus on the Economic Crisis.

The Council on Foundations has launched Economic Xchange, a web-based platform where members of the philanthropic sector can exchange information, dialogue, ideas, and tactics around the economic crisis and its impact on Philanthropy. Click here to visit the site.

Featured Foundation

Arlington Tomorrow Foundation
Arlington, Texas
Learn more about one of CSF newest member foundations, the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation was formed by the Arlington City Council to oversee an endowment fund created from natural gas revenues realized on City-owned property. Ninety-percent of gas well lease bonus earnings and 50 percent of all royalties earned on the wells go into the foundation, a permanent endowment fund. The interest earnings from this fund are distributed through grants to help improve the quality of life in Arlington. The foundation focuses its funding efforts on building safe and strong neighborhoods, historic preservation and beautification, arts and culture, libraries, environmental and energy conservation, parks and recreation and animal services and youth and families.
